CUPID FINALLY GETS EVEN

Loverboy Vo - Cupid’s Revenge [Album]

We’re a bit far away from Valentine’s Day, but November 22nd is all about Cupid…..’s Revenge. After 3 singles, and a detailed roll out/social media blitz assisted by Aspire Music Group and advertising magnate Vydia, Loverboy Vo has released his album “Cupid’s Revenge.”

It marks his first major project constructed with a concept from the ground up. It’s also the first project released by Aspire Music Group, entirely created by our team. This album tells the story of Cupid from a different perspective and asks the question: What happens when Cupid get’s tired of being the matchmaker for everyone else?

“ Everybody get love but me
all these arrows with all these names
nobody got one for me
and i’m the matchmaker ”
- 4. My Lick BACK

Opening up with “Find Something Safe To Do”, Cupid paints a picture about how he feels like Bonnie & Clyde with the girl he’s with. Though they’re not officially together, he’s down for her and she’s down for him. Laced over smooth guitar (produced by Aspire’s BigWhiteBeatz), it does a great job of setting the scene for what begins Cupid’s downfall.

Moving then into “Selfish”, a slow R&B callback to Ginuwine’s “Stingy”, Cupid sings about how much he loves her, appreciates that she is loyal and treats him right, and admits he’s finally smitten. He’s found someone he can honestly love wholeheartedly. Vo takes the time to really show off his various flows and pockets in this record. And also shows off soulful vocals in the outro, once again channeling Ginuwine and the R&B sensations of olde to give big runs and ad libs.

And that’s when the story takes a turn. Everything around Cupid come’s crashing down, literally going from the previous lyrics “And don’t nobody else come close. Selfish, Selfish over you,” to the opening line, “She expecting me to stick around and that shit crazy. Don’t like what I’m becoming, shit… But this what you made me.” This is a hurt that almost all of us can relate to after a good heartbreak. The lyrics are scrawling out over a sinister and dark beat, laced by Sir Rahmal of The TEN, giving us the first rap record on the project. This song is a descent into Cupid’s darkest hour and decision to stop playing nice.

“ Since then I traded in my
arrow for a Draco
I just been shooting shit
Not worried bout who get smoked
Been in my feelings
So I might just let it burn slow
Screaming fuck love
This how my villain story unfolds ”
- 3. MY VILLAIN STORY

And in a complete flip, we go from the dark drill feel of “My Villain Story” and jump into the upbeat R&B chill vibe of “My Lick Back.” This was the 3rd and final single from the project, released on October 25th which you can find here.

With Cupid’s toxic reign in full swing, he fully embraces his ain’t-shitness and dons the name “Hair Weave Killa.” This is a playboy bedroom anthem where his only concern is knockin’ em down and making sure they assume the position when he’s in the building. This was also the 2nd single released, which you can find here.

“Not Delivered” continues the story where all playboys inevitably end up; being honest that they know they messed up bad. Making the realization that the girl he really wanted is done with all his foolishness for real and has blocked him completely. This was the lead single of the project, where Cupid is really coming to grips with the that he himself might be the problem.

Bringing us to the close of the story. Cupid speaks on understanding he’s still not happy after all his freeballin’ and cheek clapping. Lamenting on how he ruined the good girls he came across, he resigns to getting his well-deserved karma. He’s accepted the consequences of his actions, leaving him all alone in the end.

It’s not a storybook ending, but this is the realstic culmination of those decisions that we’ve all heard too many times. So this album tells the story from a unique perspective, while managing to make it all feel very relatable. And the soundscape gives you everything from goldenage 2000’s R&B, to drill, to modern late night vibes. It shows Loverboy Vo’s versatility as an aritst and a writer.

“ Matching  my  bullshit, She  be  on  timing
I can’t take what I dish
One day you my little rider
How we moving divided
Now you open to options
On that bullshit
They all say Imma dog
And I don’t doubt it ”
- 7. I’m THE PROBLEM

With the vast majority of the project being penned by Loverboy Vo himself and labelmate Rxxm504, this project is sure to turn heads for everyone involved. With visual media soon to follow to better illustrate the story and cement this project as a highlight for Vo and his soon to be illustrious career. Take a listen below.
