Ray Vaughn - Plate of Collard Greens w/ Hot Sauce (Freestyle)
Another Friday, another Ray Vaughn freestyle where he bogarts the most recent viral rap record by adding his own spin and witty bars. Daylyt and J Coles “Plate of Collard Greens” record, released this past Monday, is the most recent victim. Ray drops a Burnt Sienna-tinted performance video live from the studio featuring just him, his engineer, and a peek inside his humble beginnings. But it wouldn’t be Ray if he didn’t weave current and hilarious bars into the story:
“LOOK, I DONE BEEN WHIPPED WITH EXTENSION CORDS
STILL SLICKER THAN DIDDY FLOOR
OH BABY OIL IS NEEDED ON THIS ROAD I TOOK
MOVING FORWARD”
The instrumental, produced by Python P & Saint Pat, sets a perfect backdrop for Ray to spit uninterrupted due to the lack of drums a la DJ Premier, or more recently Darringer. The result is 3 minutes and 35 seconds that would force Funkmaster Flex to pull down his uptown beanie and scream about “MUTHAFUCKIN BARS” all over Hot 97.
Ray is ultimately still working at a blistering pace, releasing content nonstop, and a song nearly every week. Everything is leading up his debut album with TDE, which has those in the know waiting with baited breath. But until then, pass the hot sauce.
